All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.1
Scripture is the sacred writings of Christianity contained in the Bible,2 which consists of the Old Testament and the New Testament.3
Literally, ‘breathed out by God’ is translated from Greek, theos = God; and pneustos = to breathe; present active4 (as compared to psuchein = to breathe gently).5 Other translations like KJV, NAS, NLT use inspired by God. It connotes the strong, conscious inbreathing of God into men qualifying them to give utterance to truth. It is God speaking through men.6
Whereas, a revelation could be, first, a direct impartation by God to the mind of the writer which he could not have learned otherwise; e.g., the story of creation. And second, a record of events that the writer could have observed; e.g., Moses’ account of Exodus.7
Revelations are partial, progressive, and conditional. Consider these verses: I love those who love me, and those who seek me diligently find me.8 Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.9 If you turn at my reproof, behold, I will pour out my spirit to you; I will make my words known to you.10
For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.11 We are assured that personal prophesies are for our upbuilding, and encouragement and consolation.12
. . . a child, is no different from a slave, though he is the owner of everything, but he is under guardians and managers until the date set by his father. In the same way we also, when we were children, were enslaved to the elementary principles of the world. But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, . . . to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!” So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God.13
Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.14
