What can be more ecstatic for a newly married couple than to confirm that they are pregnant? A sudden sense of expectation is birth. From then on a lot of changes and deliberate preparation takes place. Interestingly, the social norm now is to keep the baby’s sex a secret. A diligent effort is done to conceal it until the day of “Baby Reveal”—the creativity is endless.
In the same breathe, when our eyes are opened and we get a revelation of who God is, there is exuberant joy. God says, I love those who love me and those who seek me diligently find me.1 The moment you decide to incline your ear and make a diligent search, God reveals himself—I have made them known to you today even to you.2 It is like tearing open a wrapper to reveal the gift. As you consider the cosmos, you will exalt! When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him?3 No one has an excuse. For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.4
Even your conscience is quickened. You become more sensitive to the prodding of the Holy Spirit. “Behold, the days are coming, . . . I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people. . . . for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, declares the LORD. For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.”5
God exalts above all things his Word and his Name.6 Through his Written Word, he reveals himself partially, progressively, and conditionally. We learn about what pleases him—without faith it is impossible to please God . . . he rewards those who seek him.7 The Father is seeking people who worship him in spirit and truth.8 Through his Names we learn of his character and attributes. Fear not, for I am with you, . . . . everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made.9
And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.10 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold togerther.11
Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.12
Have I not written for you thirty sayings of counsel and knowledge, to make you know what is right and true, . . .12
