The Faithful Are Favored

I will look with favor on the faithful in the land, that they may dwell with me; he who walks in the way that is blameless shall minister to me.1

Wouldn’t it be great to receive favors? Can you picture goodness and mercy following you all the days of your life, and dwelling in the house of the LORD forever2? Knowing that you please God gives you confidence and courage, even as you walk through dangerous alleys or deep dark valleys.3 The bible mentions that Enoch walked with God and he was not [found], for God took him4 (The first mention of God enjoying a walk was in the garden in the cool of the day5). Nothing much is mentioned about Enoch; the book of Hebrews gives a bit more information, By faith Enoch was taken up so that he should not see death, and he was not found, because God had taken him. Now before he was taken he was commended as having pleased God.6

Another person that we find that walked with God was Noah—he was named by Lamech, his father,  saying, “Out of the ground that the LORD has cursed, this one shall bring us relief from our work and from the painful toil of our hands”7 (Remember, because Adam failed to exercise leadership and protect Eve from sin, God cursed the ground.8 Thus, God had to drive them out of his presence for their disobendience9). Then the population grew. The LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And the LORD regretted that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart. So the LORD said, I will blot out man, whom I have created from the face of the land . . . for I am sorry that I have made them. But Noah found favor in the eyes of the LORD.10 God had found a candidate to start anew. Then the LORD said, “My spirit shall not abide in man forever, for he is flesh: his days shall be 120 years.11 By faith, Noah, being warned by God concerning events as yet unseen, in reverent fear constructed an ark for the saving of his household. By this he condemned the world and became an heir of the righteousness that comes by faith.12 Noah was a righteous man, blameless in his generation. Noah walked with God.13

When you are secure in your standing before God, you are unmoved by circumstances. By faith Moses, when he was born, was hidden for three months by his parents, because they saw that the child was beautiful, and they were not afraid of the king’s edict. By faith Moses, when he was grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, choosing rather to be mistreated with the people of God than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. He considered the reproach of Christ greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt, for he was looking to the reward. By faith he left Egypt, not being afraid of the anger of the king, for he endured as seeing him who is invisible.14

Now, how may you be sure of your position? Where do you start to attain such a secure relationship with God? There is no fast method. It takes saturation! Intentionally seeking and delving in his Word until your mind is renewed.15 Therefore do not be anxious . . . . But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.16 I love those who love me, and those who seek me diligently find me.17 Therefore, do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.18

God knows you by name.19 And calls you!20 Will you answer?
