God’s Will

Therefore do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised.1

We draw confidence from knowing that we are doing God’s will, since it comes with a promised reward.
What is God’s will therefore?

It is God’s will that man is made in his image and likeness. And that we are to take dominion of his creation. God blessed man that he may be fruitful and multiply.2 It is God’s will to make a suitable helper for man.3 Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.4 After commanding Abram to go from his country and kindred and father’s house to the land to be shown him, God blessed him. It is God’s will to bless that we can be a blessing. And to curse those who dishonors his chosen one.5

It is God’s will that we fear and serve him. We shall have no other gods, for the LORD our God who is in our midst is a jealous God.6 For you are a people holy [set apart] to the LORD your God. The LORD your God has chosen you to be a people for his treasured possession, . . . because the LORD loves you and is keeping an oath that he swore to your fathers, . . . Know therefore that the LORD your God is God, the faithful God, who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations.7

It is God’s will that his way may be known on earth, his saving power among all nations.8 It is God’s will that his chosen servant not fear, for God is with him. “You are my servant, I have chosen you and not cast you off”; fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.9 “I will go before you and level the exalted places, I will break in pieces the doors of bronze and cut through the bars of iron, I will give you the treasures of darkness and the hoards in secret places, that you may know that it is I, the LORD, the God of Israel, who call you by your name.10 It is God’s will that all people be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth.11

Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.12 For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised.13

It is God’s will that we not shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who have faith and preserve their soul.14

And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”15
