Consider Jesus

Therefore, holy brothers, you who share in a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our confession, who was faithful to him who appointed him, just as Moses also was faithful in all God’s house. For Jesus has been counted worthy of more glory than Mosesas much more glory as the builder of a house has more honor than the house itself.1

Yes, we were called and redeemed for a purpose2—a heavenly calling. We who believe and are saved have been bought with a price.3 Jesus himself is our high priest in the order of Melchizedek.4 He is without father or mother or genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but resembling the Son of God he continues a priest forever.5 Jesus himself intercedes for us,6  watching over his word to perform it.7 Jesus supersedes Moses, who represents the Law, and ushers in a new covenant.8

I thank my God always when I remember you in my prayers, because I hear of your love and of the faith that you have toward the Lord Jesus and for all the saints, and I pray that the sharing of your faith may become effective for the full knowledge of every good thing that is in us for the sake of Christ. For I have derived much joy and comfort from your love, my brother, because the hearts of the saints have been refreshed through you.9

As we daily immerse ourselves in God’s word, we grow in our understanding until we attain full knowledge of the Truth.10 His revelations are partial, progressive, and conditional. We are like babies that feed on milk until we grow to maturity and are able to chew on food. In the early church those who received his word were baptized and added.11 The church leaders equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and from by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes. Rather, speaking the truth in love we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, . . .12

We do our part by daily abiding in Jesus’ presence.13 Intentionally, we make it our priority to seek him first.14 We study his Word.15 We make it a habit to meet together with fellow believers to stir up and encourage one another.16 As we do these things on a regular basis, Jesus assures us that we are made clean.17 Likewise, the Holy Spirit empowers us with his gifts.18 That we may fulfill his purpose and his will for us to go and make disciples of all nations.19

Now Moses was faithful in all God’s house as a servant, to testify to the things that were to be spoken later, but Christ is faithful over God’s house as a son. And we are his house if indeed we hold fast our confidence and our boasting in our hope.20 If you love me, you will keep my commandments.21
