Great is the LORD and greatly to be praised in the city of our God! His holy mountain, beautiful in elevation, is the joy of all the earth, Mount Zion, in the far north, the city of the great King. Within her citadels God has made himself known as a fortress. Walk about Zion, go around her, number her towers, consider well her ramparts, go through her citadels, that you may tell the next generation that this is God, our God forever and ever. He will guide us forever.1
Walk. To walk connotes movement, purpose, and destination. Today’s Global Positioning System (GPS) helps us pinpoint our location (say, Point A) that we may navigate our way (to Point B). It serves as a perfect guide. Even more assuring is that God promises to keep his eyes open for the sake of his people.2
We are not left alone. He provides us His Word to illumine our steps along the way. Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.3 If only we receive His words and seek it like silver, we have the assurance that the LORD will guard our path and watch over our way.4
Consider. Pause. Contemplate. Deliberate thoughtfully. As you think and meditate about his creation and His Word, it will bring understanding.5 Whoever gets sense loves his own soul; he who keeps understanding will discover good.6 Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!7
Tell. Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk to them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.8 How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? So faith comes through hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.9
