Empathy

A Kingdom leader is broken.

For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. . .—but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.1

A Kingdom leader’s experience and realization of God’s continuous, unmerited, favor molds his heart. (God) comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.2

A Kingdom leader has a heart after God’s own heart; it beats after what God feels strongly about.

A Kingdom leader sees the multitude and weeps. When (Jesus) saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.3

A Kingdom leader is compelled by a need. The need is the call.

“But as God has not made anything useless in the world, as all beings fulfill obligations or fill a role in this sublime drama of creation, I cannot exempt myself from this duty, and small though it be, I too have a mission to fulfill, as for example: alleviating the sufferings of my fellowmen.”4

This pressing need propels a Kingdom leader to act—there is a bias to action. Imbued with power from the Holy Spirit, a Kingdom leader has this endless supply of energy.

We love because (God) first loved us.5
