But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.¹

Jesus continuously modeled for us this behavior daily. He would always separate himself; E.g., withdraw from the crowd and go to a desolate place by himself;² go up the mountain by himself to pray;³ at Gethsemane he said to his disciples, “Sit here, while I go over there and pray.”⁴
It was Jesus’ habit to first commune with his Father. God knows our needs; but he seeks our filial love first.

And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.⁵

Hear, O LORD, when I cry aloud; be gracious to me and answer me! You have said, “Seek my face;” My heart says to you, “Your face, LORD, do I seek.”⁶

If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.⁷ Note the conjunction “If;” it presumes that you have received Christ Jesus the Lord and are walking in him, established in the faith⁸—that you are accepted by the Beloved and are reconciled to him.⁹

I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living! Wait for the LORD; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the LORD!¹⁰ Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.¹¹

My prayer is that Jesus may reveal himself to you, that you may have a zeal for his kingdom and his righteousness—a zeal that is based on knowledge.¹² One thing have I asked of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to inquire in his temple.¹³ AMEN!
